2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games

Avril has been very busy over the last few weeks as a volunteer for the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games.

She is a Special Olympics Town Planner and has been working with a wonderful group of people to help organise the Special Olympics Town.

The big day has finally arrived with the opening ceremony on at Thomond Park this evening and the games themselves starting tomorrow, Thursday and continuing on until Sunday. Most of the action takes place at the University of Limerick but there are other venues dotted around Limerick and Clare. Check out www.specialolympics.ie for more details.

We wish all the athletes the best of luck and hope the weather stays fine.

Avril Joins the Board of Inclusion Ireland

Avril with Fiona Duignan (Senior Project Manager) & Deirdre Carroll (CEO), Inclusion Irleand Avril is honoured and delighted to have been invited to join the board of Inclusion Ireland.

Inclusion Ireland is a national organisation working to promote the rights of people with an intellectual disability and is the umbrella body for over 160 organisations providing services and supports to almost 28,000 people with an intellectual disability in Ireland.

Avril recently spoke at the Inclusion Ireland’s AGM on 23rd/24th April 2010 in Killarney.

Booktrust invite Avril to 'Equal Measures' Event at London Book Fair

Avril was honoured and delighted to be a guest of Booktrust at this year’s London Book Fair which was held at Earls Court, London on 19th-21st April 2010. She was asked to participate as part of the panel of contributors in the ‘Equal Measures’ event hosted by Booktrust.

This event is part of Booktrust’s work to encourage the children’s book world to increase its representation of disabled people in books see www.booktrust.org.uk/Campaigns/Bookmark/Booktrust-and-disability for more info.
