It can be used before a child goes to a birthday party, to prepare them as to what is likely to happen at the party.

I use the book as a visual aid to support my son. I use it to help explain that the present is for his friend and not for him and that he should not open it. I also use it to help explain how he should behave while playing the games and while eating. But most of all I use it to help him understand what is going to happen and so as to reduce his anxiety about this new experience for him.
